A Berks County native, Dr. Nelson grew up in Morgantown and received her BS from Ursinus College. She then graduated with a VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. After practicing in Delaware for three years, she returned to Berks County where Dr. Nelson’s and Dr. Larkin’s paths crossed as they worked in the same animal hospital.

Prior to joining Larkin Veterinary Center in 1999, Dr. Nelson pursued private practice in Morgantown, developing her special interest in birds, exotic animals, and wildlife, while continuing to provide quality care for cats and dogs. She is a past president of the Mid Atlantic Association of Avian Veterinarians. Dr. Nelson also enjoys canine and feline medicine and surgery.

Dr. Nelson and her husband Mike, also from Berks County, have two children, Christopher and Emily. Her interests include horseback riding, gardening, and spending time with her family and their pets at home.
